Digital Technologies

The aim of the course is to investigate which methods are most suitable for documenting heritage-protected and semi-ruined spaces. The course focuses on recognising and addressing measurement inaccuracies in situations where straight lines and white planes of computer softwares fail to accommodate the layered complexity and organic forms of the real world. We learn to critically engage with various digital techniques such as 3D scanning and scan processing, image generation and enhancement using artificial intelligence, and presentation in virtual reality. The course develops students’ critical skills in using assistive technologies to simplify routine aspects of the design process while preserving the designer’s control over creative decision-making.
