Measuring Workshop
This intensive workshop for Interior Architecture students focused on developing both technical drawing skills and a critical, sensorial approach to architectural documentation. Conducted in a grade-listed yet semi-abandoned building awaiting renovation, the workshop encouraged students to engage with the layered materialities, atmospheres, and traces of time often undervalued in conventional heritage conservation processes.
Structured across three consecutive days — measuring, technical drawing, and drawing — the aim was to build competence in producing precise orthographic drawings at varying scales and levels of detail, while developing a personal approach to site documentation that captures both spatial and atmospheric qualities. Beyond technical accuracy, the workshop emphasised treating the drawing set as a gestalt that conveys the evolving character of place through material ageing, patina, and partial decay — elements often erased in attempts to restore buildings to an imagined original state.
